HOUSE RULES just got a lot scarier

The house doesn’t wait for you to break a rule any more. From the first room it is out to frighten you: a breath at your ear, and when you turn round, someone standing right behind you. A figure at the end of the corridor who isn’t there when you look again. Something crawling across the ceiling. The lights dying, and every chair turned to face you when they come back. Every room is worse than the one before, and in the Lady’s rooms it never lets up. Meet the Lodger: starved, in a torn grey nightgown, her long black hair over her face. She took the room at the top of the house a long time ago, and never left. She can’t hurt you, and nothing she does breaks a house rule. She only has to frighten you. The dead of the house go down heavier now, and without the screaming. And if you would rather play it calmer, SCARES (on the title and in the pause menu) switches the house’s scares off. The rules, the Butler and the fights stay. Three new trailers came with it: “It gets worse”, “Check the ceiling” and “Not real”.

DRAKE’S MANSION: sixteen jump scares, and he comes back worse

Every time you fight him off now, he comes back worse. The mask cracks, he runs faster, holds on harder and lets go sooner, and at the end there is nothing of him left. Sixteen jump scares are waiting in the house: a face at the window, something crawling out of the TV, the lights going out one by one and then yours. They never come twice in a row, and never while he is already on you.

He doesn’t walk any more. He runs, and on all fours he is faster than you. When he gets his hands on you it’s a fight: mash E (or A on a controller, or tap on a phone) to shove him off, then run. The third grab in the same chase, there’s no fight left. Your own breathing is quieter too, so you can hear him coming.

The night doesn’t end at the Tower’s doors any more. Ride the glass elevator until it stops at 311 metres, climb the emergency stair, cross the glass floor at 342, slip past dinner at 351, and get out onto the roof at 451. Then hold on until the sun comes up. Later that day: a map in the corner, the prompts big in the middle of the screen, and the sound comes back by itself after an interruption.
